‘Whaletown” was created after I travelled to visit my mother on a far-flung island in British Columbia, Canada. There, Whaletown, a small village of clapboard houses, sits on the steep hills above the bays and cliffs. With picnic and sunhats, we motored into the choppy waters in search of the many whales that make these seas their summer home. On still nights, my mother can hear them breathing from her porch! But sadly, no whales that day. I am still waiting to see these wondrous creatures in real life. Returning home to London, I decided to create my own Whaletown, which I hope captures a small semblance of the whale’s majestic beauty.
